Based in Vienna, photographer Mélanie creates atmospheres at the crossroads of interiors, food and architecture.

Through her images, she captures the beauty of everyday scenes, with a particular eye for the smallest details. For Jars, she styled the Dashi and Partition collections in her own world, freely combining shapes, materials and colours.

We asked her a few questions about her inspirations, her appreciation for handcrafted objects and the way she experiences the table.

How would you describe your world in a few words?
I capture moments, scenes and beauty, always with a particular eye for the smallest details.

Where do the atmospheres you create come from?
They come from all sorts of places: old books I find on design, architecture or food, nature, my walks around Vienna, as well as inspiring people I discover on social media.

What is it about handcrafted objects that speaks to you?
Every piece is unique; no two are ever quite the same. You can sense the time and care that went into making it, and that is what makes it so precious.

What immediately drew you to Jars?
I was immediately drawn to the design and quality of Jars ceramics. I use them every day, mixing pieces from the Dashi and Partition collections. It is a way of bringing together two of my greatest passions: food and design.

What place does tableware have in your everyday life?
At the weekend, I love going to the market, choosing fresh vegetables and herbs, then coming home to cook. Good ingredients and discovering new recipes are an important part of my life.

For me, pleasure also comes from the way food is presented and the atmosphere we create around the table. And you can never have too many beautiful ceramics!
