the manufacture

French ceramic manufacture since 1857

Our manufacture is located in the small village of Anneyron, in the Drôme region of southern France.

It is here that our collective of around one hundred ceramists comes together every day to work with clay, continuing a tradition that has endured for more than 167 years. Every piece is shaped by hand through precise, practiced gestures that remain constant while never being exactly the same. Stoneware, a material full of possibilities, offers an extraordinary playground for creativity. Inspired by its craft, Jars designs diverse collections that explore different aesthetic worlds, created to be mixed and matched freely, from the tables of renowned chefs to family kitchens.

Jars produces its own stoneware body using carefully selected natural clays sourced from certified partners committed to responsible quarry management. The clay is cleaned and sieved several times before being blended according to a closely guarded recipe, developed through years of research and experimentation. The characteristic whiteness of this stoneware provides the perfect canvas for the richness and depth of our glazes after high-temperature firing.

the art of glazing

While the glazing process has remained unchanged for thousands of years, Jars has played a significant role in developing stable, functional reactive glazes. True treasures of the manufacture, our glazes are the result of closely guarded expertise. Achieving the perfect shade is a demanding creative journey, marked by countless trials and adjustments until the desired colour emerges.

An endless palette of vivid, deep, crystalline, crackled, matte and glossy finishes is available to our ceramists. Ladled, brushed by hand along an edge or delicately sprayed, every gesture reflects exceptional craftsmanship. During the high-temperature firing process, the glaze fuses with the stoneware, revealing its unique shades, textures and beautifully unpredictable effects.

eclectic ceramics

For Jars, eclecticism is a source of richness. Each collection expresses its own aesthetic universe while sharing the brand's defining values. Contemporary yet timeless, Jars pieces embrace a perfectly imperfect character, balancing refinement with durability.

Driven by a strong culture of research and innovation, the manufacture favours bold creative choices that often challenge convention rather than follow trends. The result is complete artistic freedom. Jars creates pieces designed for today, meant to be mixed, matched and collected over time. Beyond fashion and passing trends, they are objects made to remain relevant for years to come.

grounded: commitment & responsibility

Every decision reflects the same level of care for our products, our people, our customers and the environment. Every day, our manufacture is committed to producing exceptional ceramics through ethical and sustainable practices, using natural materials that are safe for both people and the planet.

Clay, water, surplus materials and even the heat generated by our kilns are systematically recovered and reused throughout the workshops. Whether customers or employees, people always remain at the heart of our concerns. Environmental responsibility has always been a natural part of Jars, rooted in the very material we have worked with for more than 167 years: the earth.
